Q. i saw bobby flay on "throw down" and I need some advice for farm-raising cod. I am 23 and modestly proper, but I'm in a "capital raising scheme" of becoming a rich doctor so that I can fuel efforts to develop a multiplex and have enough money to start several home-based businesses. I need to farm raise cod, but that's not my question. My question is this--- Lord Bobby Flay, said that fish + chips needs to be prepared using a "mild, neutral, flavorless fish". I went to publix and its like $8.99 for organic Codfish. I just want some plain cheap mild/neutral/flavorless fish. The cheapest fish they had was catfish at 2.99/pound but it was in "chunk style" and not "flat style". What am I to do??? [cont.]

A. You want a firm white fish like cod, and personally I would say to get fish with some taste other wise it will be bland and all you will taste is the batter. On this count I say Flay is wrong, in my opinion.

How to get better at COD?
Q. Honestly, I suck at cod. Let me explain. I usually run on a 4 bar connection lose 90% of my matches because I get killed from behind all the time. And when I see an enemy my lame excuse for a brain 1.Wants to see if its an enemy or if its just an object 2.if it sees that its an enemy it then proceeds to aim and shoot BUT it has to wait half a second before shooting. 3.Use my terrible hand eye coordination to shoot Many times when I see an enemy I dont shoot because 1. Im too afraid to, like Ill miss all the shots or 2. my reflexes are too slow. Lots of times, When I try to focus on the game, I get better at gunfights but I NEVER notice someone on my screen before its too late because 1. My vision sucks or 2. Tunnel vision. What fish in my grocery store are sustainable, good choices?
Q. I had a recent altercation at the fish counter (a man yelled at me for my purchase of chilean sea bass, but that is another story). I do not know much about purchasing fish, and am trying to educate myself. I looked at the seafood watch online, and found it confusing. To me, it seemed that some of the fish "to avoid", are also listed as "good alternatives". For example, on the culinary alternative chart, it says to avoid cod, Atlantic, but also lists it as a good alternative... am I missing something? I don't want to contribute to an industry that is doing irreparable damage. At the same time, it seems that most species of fish available to me at the store are on the avoid list.It doesn't seem logical that 90% of what I… [cont.]

what frozen fish is safe for sushi?
Q. OK, i live in a city as far away from the coasts as possible (North Dakota). I have a few fairly large supermarkets near me with what they sell as "fresh fish" and frozen fish. I have been told flash-frozen fish would probably be safer than these fresh ones because of my location, and I don't have time to mail-order fish. So of the types of commercially frozen fish i can get at the supermarkets near me, whats the safest to make sushi out of? frozen seafood examples: Tilapia Salmon Herring Cod Mahi Mahi Swordfish Halibut i left out the obvious freshwater ones, since i have been told you NEVER want to eat those raw. any suggestions from this list or other species i may run across?
Asked by Corvato - Fri Jan 9 09:10:01 2009 - Ethnic Cuisine - 6 Answers - Comments
A. None. Freezing changes the texture. The only way you even have a chance to have safe and fresh fish is to buy it from a trusted fish market. Supermarkets are no longer safe in the US since they buy food from China and as you know there is little testing and inspection for the last 8 years. PS I would like to see the look on a Japanese person's face if you asked them that question! The whole point of sashimi is the fresh and delicate flavor of the ocean etc. Also, a recent study in Seattle, found that 100% of wild salmon have round worm that can infect people. The Japanese are very particular which part of the salmon is used (Just the firm part of the tail). Americans not so much... Read up before you risk your health...or of your friends.

A. Fancy feast does have some grain free flavors so its not terrible but not great either. I would feed it but only in very small amounts. I would stick to higher quality foods like merrick, blue buffalo wilderness, halo, weruva, taste of the wild etc as his main diet. Try feeding him more food and monitor his weight. If he doesn't gain weight then keep him on that amount of food. He may actually be hungry.

Songs that bring back memories...?
Q. I was just listening to "Big-eyed Fish" by Dave Mathews Band and realized how sad it made me, my mom would always play the song on the way to my annual vacation to cape cod back when life was easy and I my family didn't have half the problems it does now. It makes me wish I appreciated those times more and all I can think about is wanting to relive those days. Are there any songs like that for you?

A. "Only One" by Yellowcard reminds me of a guy I use to like because I liked him so much that I convinced myself he was the "only one" for me. everytime I heard this song on my i Pod, I'd smile and think of him. it's been awhile since the last time I saw him but, to this day, I can't sit through the whole song without thinking of him and being sad :/

Why would activists try to save the Dolphins?
Q. Seriously, I'm not being a smart ***, I want to know why people go out of the way to save dolphins. I did some research and 97% of dolphins and related species are not endangered and the ones who are is in debate. Tuna gets fished way more, how about Cod or pollack. Dolphin is considered edible by a very small population of people. Japanese get blamed for a lot of fishing "inhumanities" but japan is a very small island and would have no qualms if not for Russian or American fishing fleets. We also have to understand that fishing dolphin might be the only fee-sable way to earn a living for ones family, if that is his/her trade. A. You are correct when you say that some fish species are more at risk than most dolphins, but I don't believe that you did much research before saying that "97% of dolphins and related species are not endangered and the ones who are is in debate". Treating blackfish (killer whales and similar), porpoises, salt water dolphins and river dolphins as 'dolphins and related species' - but leaving out larger whale species - 6 out of 45 are classed as vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered by the IUCN (about 13%). Over half of the remainder are classed as 'Data deficient' - many of these are thought likely to be at risk but are not officially listed as such because data on their population is lacking (not surprising for species… [cont.]

A. Here is a tip that worked for me. If you have BO, train in combat training on recruit. If it gets too easy, switch up to Regular. If regular is relatively challenging, start playing online. Also a tip that has always worked for me. Try being a bit silent and aware of your surroundings. If there are bullets flying around you, take cover. Also, shoot before you aim. It may be a bit rough, but aiming and then shooting doesent work always, at least not in close quarters. Try using "easy" weapons, like the Vector for MW2, or AK-74U on black ops. Remember to find a weapon you are comfortable using! Try all the weapons until you find one you like. Also, FOCUS. Those are my tips. Hope you get better. Oh and one bit, just have fun. I… [cont.]

Now let me say… [cont.]

I am a carpenter with a wife and three kids I cant do anything but my trade to support them, I don't… [cont.]

A. Dolphins are very intelligent, and studies are starting to show they might even have a concious mind, meaning they don't act out of instincts like we used to believe all animals did. People don't like the idea of killing dolphins because of the amazing intelligence we are starting to believe they have, and the strong emotions they seem to show. And also the extremely inhumane ways that the japanes kill these animals, and the mercury in the meat that is extremely unhealthy if consumed, so it is also bad for the people. Where it's normal for different cultures to eat different animals, many people don't like the idea of killing animals who show high intelligence and high emotions.

Cod is the common name for genus Gadus, belonging to the family Gadidae, and is also used in the common name for various other fish. Cod is popular as a food with a mild flavour and a dense, flaky white flesh. Cod livers are processed to make cod liver oil, an important source of vitamin A, vitamin D, vitamin E and omega-3 fatty acids (EPA and DHA).
